Comfort Keepers Caregivers Take The Time To Understand An Elderly Senior Clients Emotional Framework Toward In Home Assistance

By Carol Carbutti

Here at Comfort Keepers we understand that these are scary times for senior citizens.  One of the pressures seniors didn’t face during the great depression is new demands from their adult children.  The US Census figures show that the number of adult children moving back to the nest has been rising since the 1970’s and is excelerating because of record foreclosures. An estimated 56 percent of men and 43 percent of women ages 18 to 24 now live with one or both of their elderly parents. Additionally, an estimated 65 percent of all college graduates have moved back in with their senior parents. Now many of the elderly are frightened by what is happening to them financially and physically.  So our non-medical homecare employees take the time to understand all of our seniors fears and emotions.  Aging can also cause seniors to be depressed as they realize they now need in home assistance to do minor things.  This is why we encourage our CT caregivers to value a seniors opinion.  Our homecare people focus on the whole person and address the needs in each and every area of their life.  Don’t just give your elderly client the answer or solution to the problem.  Involve them in the process of coming up with the solution.  A senior client may be more comfortable if they feel they were part of the process.

Addressing the fears of a seniors generation is an absolute necessity.  We believe in spending quality time with our retired clients to help address their fears.  Comfort Keeper Companions always put this on the top of their To Do list.  Caregivers should communicate more with senior clients during these stressful times. Our CT Comfort Keepers Agency promotes interactive care.
